In the hills east of Rome, hot springs carry dissolved limestone to the surface and leave it there. Over centuries it accumulates, compresses, crystallizes. What becomes travertine is time made visible.
The Romans quarried this exact formation to build their city. The Colosseum. The thermal baths. The façades that still stand two thousand years on. The Roman Plinth is cut from the same geological event.
Once placed, a stone object rarely moves. It becomes part of the room's logic. The light changes around it through the day. It holds the temperature of the space and returns it slowly. This is what living with stone means.
Calcium carbonate in its most unmediated form is the color of warm ivory. At Tivoli, in the Lazio hills east of Rome, the same thermal springs that fed the ancient aqueducts deposited mineral-rich water layer by layer over millennia — and the limestone that formed from that process carries a color you cannot manufacture: cream, sand, bone, the natural tone of carbonated minerals slowly pressurized into stone.
This travertine was cut from the same geological formation that supplied the Colosseum. The quarries at Tivoli are still active — the stone is the same. What changes is how it is used. Here, a single block is worked into a plinth: 17.7" × 12.6" × 12.6" (45 × 32 × 32 cm), 121 lbs (55 kg). Four sides are left raw — the pores open where gas bubbles escaped the mineralizing water, the surface textured, geological. The top is hand-sanded to a matte finish: flat, receptive, without gloss.
In a room, beige travertine reads as resolved without effort. It absorbs light rather than reflecting it. It does not compete with the objects placed on it or beside it. It sits in the same tonal register as linen, plaster, bleached oak — without mimicking any of them. This is what two thousand years of Roman construction understood: the stone does not need to announce itself.

Each piece is quarried directly at Tivoli, in the same formation that supplied the Roman Colosseum. The open pores, sedimentary banding, and calcite veining are geological — they cannot be replicated in composite. A certificate of origin is available on request.
Document any damage on delivery with photographs and notify us within 48 hours. We will arrange a full replacement at no cost to you. Every piece is individually crated and fully insured in transit.
Orders may be cancelled within 24 hours of confirmation for a full refund. After this window, your piece enters production — custom stone orders cannot be cancelled once cutting begins.
Each piece is cut to order from the active quarry in Tivoli, shaped by stonemasons, and shipped directly to you. There is no warehouse inventory. The wait is the cost of the thing being made for you specifically.
